2020 Duke’s Mayo Classic Will Be Played at Wake Forest
Charlotte, North Carolina (September 2, 2020) – The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) today announced that this year’s Duke’s Mayo Classic will be played at Wake Forest University’s Truist Field in Winston-Salem, N.C. The 2020 Duke’s Mayo Classic is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In accordance with guidelines from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services concerning COVID-19, the game will not be open for fans to attend.
Fans who purchased tickets through the Charlotte Sports Foundation will have their tickets refunded to the original payment source. If fans would like their payments applied to the 2021 season or have any additional questions, they may contact CSF at [email protected].
“The decision has been made to play the 2020 Duke’s Mayo Classic at Wake Forest University with no fans in attendance,” said Danny Morrison, executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “The Demon Deacons already host Clemson at home on Sept. 12 before traveling to NC State and then playing the Duke’s Mayo Classic against Notre Dame. As we continue to follow the guidelines and advice of government and public health officials, playing this game at Truist Field made the most sense. We look forward to an exciting game between two great teams in Notre Dame and Wake Forest.”
About the Charlotte Sports Foundation
The mission of the Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF), a 501(c)(3), is to provide leadership for sports-based initiatives that result in a positive impact on the economy and quality of life in the Charlotte region. CSF was created in the spring of 2013 as a combined entity of Charlotte’s two primary sports development groups, Charlotte Collegiate Football and the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission. Its origins can be traced to the vision of Charlotte civic leaders after the very successful hosting of the 1994 NCAA Men’s Final Four.
The Foundation also provides support for recruitment and operation of other local sporting events, and spearheads Charlotte’s continued growth as a preferred host for premier national and regional sporting events. CSF’s future regular season football games include East Carolina University vs. Appalachian State University and the University of Georgia vs. Clemson University (2021), and the University of North Carolina vs. the University of South Carolina (2023).
